The United States military has completed its 11th consecutive day of strikes on Iran, with explosions reported in Tehran as the conflict continues to escalate.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the latest strikes targeted Iranian military operations centres, maritime capabilities, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities and military logistics infrastructure. According to CENTCOM, the operations are aimed at further degrading Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The military also accused Iran of attacking more than 30 commercial vessels transiting the strategic waterway, saying the incidents had endangered hundreds of civilian mariners and undermined freedom of navigation.
Footage released by CENTCOM showed what it said were U.S. military operations and surveillance video of the strikes. Reuters could not independently verify the location or the date of the footage.
Meanwhile, separate footage released on Wednesday showed explosions over Tehran, with streaks visible in the night sky. Reuters verified the location using road layouts, building exteriors and satellite imagery, although it could not independently confirm when the video was recorded. No earlier version of the footage was found online before July 22.
Iran's Fars News Agency reported that air defence systems were activated in northeastern Tehran during the early hours of Wednesday.
